Hola. I'm Alejandro Peña.

"The foundation has allowed me to ...."

About Me

I was born and raised in the territory of what is now Careyes. After receiving my B.A. in Biology at the University of Guadalajara, I returned to Careyes to start the turtle preservation program in 1983, which is still running to this day. My research with Dr. Theodora Pinou in marine turtle nesting, the moon’s relationship to nesting, and marine turtle health has been published in the Bulletin of the Peabody Museum of Natural History (Yale University) and the Herpetological Review. Till this day, I manage the local population of sea turtles in Careyes and deliver environmental education talks to the children of the local communities during the Sea Turtles Field Trips that are done in collaboration with the foundations Environmental Education Program!
