Our artist residency program was launched in August 2013 with Mexico City based artist Artemio, who created a film in collaboration with local children from primary and secondary schools in Villa, Zapata, Miguel Hidalgo and Agua Caliente. The film they created is entitled El Naufragio (The Shipwreck) under the rubric of La Isla Perdida Productions. The children enacted scenes of a boat crash on a deserted island and the subsequent struggle to survive. In collaboration with Artemio, the kids wrote the screenplay, acted, and directed the film, which culminated in a dramatic and absurdist narrative. Each child received a copy of the film, interviews, and their photo on a red carpet installation staged by the artist. Artemio was the first artist who devoted his entire residency period to working on a collaborative project with kids from the community.
