We also offer workshops on bicycle repair and maintenance to help local youth become more mobile and self reliant. In January 2017, the Foundation held a special bike gifting event in cooperation with La Fundación Fraterna from Mexico City.
We gifted 40 new bikes to the middle school students of Juan Gil Preciado, who subsequently participated in 3 mechanic workshops. Because the walk to school is long and steep in this village, bikes offer the students an easier mode of transportation as well as a means of exploring their local environment.
The workshops were lead by Ignacio Pelayo, bike expert and head of our SRP, who taught the students how to identify common bike problems and to service and maintain their bikes using household tools.
