Record Number of Turtle Nests Collected

Late last night, an intense tropical rainstorm arrived in our turtle sanctuary at Playa Teopa. Large storms tend to increase turtle nesting activities, and our protected beaches received a huge influx of nesting female turtles, known as an arribazón. The Sea Turtle Protection & Conservation Center staff worked throughout the entire night to protect new nests from animal predators. Our dedicated staff collected a total of 242 nests during the two-day arribazón – a new record for the Sanctuary!
