During the months of March, April, and May, we brought the magic of science to the students in the communities surrounding Careyes! These elementary schools, middle schools, and even some preschools were fortunate enough to be paid a visit by the Science, Technology, and Innovation Traveling Truck (Tráiler Itinerante de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación), an educational program sponsored by the state of Jalisco's department of education. The ?! Careyes Foundation coordinated these visits with science teacher Juan Carlos Mónico Jiménez, who travels around the state with this Science Truck to spread scientific knowledge in a fun and interactive way, to get children excited about learning, and to show children how science is all around them, all the time. The children could not take their eyes off of the teacher as he performed experiments and taught them about heat energy, gravity, and the attraction and repellency of magnets. This program provides the students in our villages an opportunity to view and partake in experiments that they would not usually be able to, due to a lack of resources at their schools and in their communities. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for the students inspired by this experience!
