The students in the small fishing village of Chamela are now almost two months in to their first year of English lessons, as we have recently added this community to our service area. There are only 24 students in their elementary school, so all of the 2nd through 6th graders come together in one group for their biweekly English classes. The school is in session from 2pm-6:30pm each day and, every Monday and Thursday, the students arrive racing to get to their English class! In this short time, the students have already mastered the alphabet, learned their numbers up to 100, know the parts of the body, and are comfortable greeting each other in English. If you’re ever visiting Careyes, we would love for you to come observe an English class to meet these enthusiastic young learners and see all skills that they have gained!
