We are so excited to announce that, thanks to the financial support of the Happy Hearts Fund, we have now completed the reconstruction of one of twelve preschools in our service area!
With the Careyes Foundation Hurricane Patricia Fund, we have been able to fully repair and convert the ten elementary schools into shelters. Now, with the funding provided by the Happy Hearts Fund, we are able to extend our efforts to also repair the damaged preschools.
For the past several months, we have been working closely with the Happy Hearts Fund to rebuild and improve the preschool in the village of Miguel Hidalgo Viejo. The school remained badly damaged over two years after Hurricane Patricia made landfall in the Costalegre region.
On May 18th, we joined with the preschool teachers to treat community members to performances by our children and adult choirs, baile folklórico, and dance numbers from the preschool students and teachers themselves. Through these presentations and the dinner that followed, we invited the community to take ownership for maintaining a beautiful, clean, and dignified learning space for their children for years to come.
