Music Unites Us All

Music is both a universal language and a window into other cultures. Over the past few months, our children’s and adult choirs have been delving into songs from Spain, Italy, Israel, the Congo, South Africa, and Cuba. Singing in another language presents a challenge; aside from understanding and conveying a song’s meaning, singers have to consider the nuances of cadence and pronunciation in the foreign language. Ultimately performing in four languages, the choirs’ presentation Saturday night in the village of Emiliano Zapata showcased their hard work, and the church’s acoustics especially highlighted the tremendous progress they’ve made over the past year.
