Seeing, Listening, Discovering: Updates From Our Summer Birding Program
Our young birders are halfway through their 8-week summer bird education program, and they’ve already learned that there’s much more to birdwatching than simply spotting a bird.
So far, students have explored bird diversity, form, beaks, birdsong, and drawing, while also learning how to use binoculars safely and effectively.
And then we took our learning outside! 🔭🌿 Students have been observing birds in the field, identifying the species they see, and recording their observations through eBird, participating in real-world citizen science.
From carefully studying a beak in the classroom to spotting a bird through binoculars in the field, these activities are helping students develop curiosity, observation skills, and a deeper connection with the biodiversity around them.
We can’t wait to see what the next three sessions bring! 🐦💚
