On March 3rd the Careyes Foundation Staff took on our final two villages of Miguel Hidalgo Nuevo and Miguel Hidalgo Viejo for a joint community bike ride. With our biggest group yet of 50 students and 12 parent volunteers, we set off into the gorgeous landscape of Miguel Hidalgo Viejo along the Rio.
On February 17th we took on the hilly and rocky village of Juan Gil Preciado, where last month we, in Partnership with Fundacion Fraterna, donated brand new bikes to all the middle school students.
In 2014, the Foundation hired international bike polo player Ignacio Pelayo to initiate a bike polo school, and since 2015 we have been running two weekly schools that serve the children of five villages.
Bikes and beaches in Arroyo Seco and Punta Pérula
On December 2nd, we organized another bike excursion with the children of the elementary and middle schools in Arroyo Seco and many of their parents and siblings. The following Saturday, we set out on bicycles once more, this time in Punta Pérula, the northernmost village we serve.
Bright and early community ride!
On Saturday, November 26, children from the two primary schools in the neighboring villages of Francisco Villa and Emiliano Zapata joined us for a 5-km community bike ride. Many children were so enthusiastic that they arrived with their parents and siblings before 8am!
