Cinema and Community Night with Miguel Hidalgo Viejo

Continuing our sea turtle educational series

On December 8, we invited children from the village of Miguel Hidalgo Viejo to the third installment in our sea turtle educational series. For this event, our resident biologist Alejandro Peña discussed how the sea turtle nesting process is impacted by animal and human predators.

Field trip to the Sea Turtle Protection and Conservation Center!

An exciting and educational preschool field trip!

This month, our biologist Alejandro Peña and his team at the STPCC hosted an amazing event: the children of the preschool in the village of Emiliano Zapata visited Careyes to learn about sea turtle conservation and release hatchlings from their protected nests into the ocean.

A Night with Sea Turtles!

A firsthand account by Devra Traiman, one of our Volunteer English Teachers

This month, I was fortunate enough to witness the natural beauty of one of the world’s oldest surviving species and participate in their conservation. A few hours after nightfall, biologist Alejandro Peña lead my group of volunteers to Playa Teopa, where we drove along the beach in ATVs on the lookout for nesting sea turtles. Without any moonlight or light pollution, we could see solely by the light of the stars and our headlamps.
