When Allies Become Part of the Mission: Reflections from Our Summer Volunteers
At Careyes Foundation, some of the most meaningful stories about our work come not from us, but from the people who experience it firsthand.
Last summer, Diane, her daughters, and a group of friends traveled from abroad to spend time with the communities we serve. What began as a volunteer experience quickly became something much deeper: a genuine exchange of cultures, friendship, and shared purpose.
For many of the children, meeting visitors from another country was both exciting and challenging. They wanted to connect, communicate, and be understood. Within days, those barriers disappeared. The classrooms, parks, and community spaces filled with laughter, dancing, and new friendships as children and volunteers exchanged songs and popular dances from Mexico and Europe.
What surprised our visitors most was the scope of the Foundation’s work. They witnessed how education, environmental conservation, art, music, English instruction, and community development come together to create opportunities for children and families across the Costalegre region.
Their experience was not limited to observing programs. They joined public park cleanups, participated in beach conservation efforts, and shared a special moment during activities related to sea turtle protection. More importantly, they saw the confidence, curiosity, and joy that emerge when children are given access to meaningful educational and cultural experiences.

A special reflection from Diane on the children, the communities, and the mission of Careyes Foundation.
As one of our allies reflected, the most powerful impact was seeing how quickly children embraced new experiences and how strongly the community values these opportunities for learning and growth.
For Careyes Foundation, their presence was a true blessing. They did not simply visit our communities—they became partners in our mission. Their perspective reminds us that the impact of our programs is best measured through the lives they touch and the connections they create.
We are deeply grateful for the trust and enthusiasm they brought to our work, and we hope their experience inspires others to get involved. Whether through volunteering, sharing our mission, or making a donation, every contribution helps us continue expanding opportunities in education, conservation, art, music, English learning, and community development.
When people see this work up close, they understand why it matters. And when they become part of it, they help ensure that even more children and families can benefit from these programs in the future.
