The Art Workshop Program (AWP) is structured around three residencies per year, in which we invite Mexican emerging artists to collaborate on a project with children from local communities.
The AWP aims to guide children toward the use of creative tools to stimulate their artistic, emotional, and sensory expression. It is a strategy that, through different processes and interpretations, seeks to enhance their creative, reflective, and critical thinking. We strive to provoke introspection in children regarding their environment, dreams, and aspirations, as well as their tastes and interests. The workshops address concepts such as identity, community, pride, and belonging, and at the same time provide opportunities for the children to develop qualities such as perseverance, commitment, environmental responsibility, and teamwork.
In addition, the artists must use recycled materials amongst the mixed media to incorporate into their day-to-day lessons and subsequent exhibition as a means of reinforcing environmental education through art.
Each residency culminates in a gallery exhibition in the Careyes Art Space showcasing the work produced by the children under the artist's guidance as well as the work produced by the artist during their residency reflecting their experience working with local children in this specific context.
