Hatching Season is a Hit

Sea turtle hatching season is in full swing, and our fall Ecology Education field trips are well underway! Students, parents, and teachers from each of our local elementary schools are making the trek to the Sea Turtle Protection & Conservation Center on Playa Teopa to get a hands-on look at the work of species conservation. Through an interactive presentation by local biologists, visitors to the sanctuary learn about the different species of sea turtle that nest in Careyes and the threats they face from human activity. Then, they have the chance to release tiny sea turtle hatchlings into the ocean—a truly magical experience! We’ve had amazingly high turnout for these field trips. Already, over 200 community members have participated this season, and we’re only halfway through. That’s a lot of voices to spread the message of ocean conservation!
