Celebrating Two Years of Music

How time flies! On Friday, our children’s and adult choirs performed for friends and family to celebrate the Careyes Foundation Music School’s second anniversary. The concert featured a selection of favorites from the past two years, including songs in Spanish, English, Italian, and Kibula. We’re so proud of this bunch and the amazing progress they’ve made!

In January of 2018, we embarked on a journey to bring music education to our region with the help of the Beckmann Foundation (formerly José Cuervo Foundation). They helped us find an experienced and enthusiastic director, Pepe Jacobo Contreras, who has developed our children’s and adult choirs from a group of people learning to sing together to an ensemble that performs complex choral music.

With an infectious smile and an endless supply of unexpected metaphors, Profe Pepe has a gift for pushing people out of their comfort zones in an embarrassment-free learning environment. Everyone is put on the spot and pushed to be their best, but they’re also encouraged to laugh at themselves and play around with their voice.

We look forward to all of the growth and good times to come as our music program presses on into its third year. Stay tuned!
