The Zapata Robotics Club 🤖

Hello everyone!

Our Vocational Training Center has introduced a brand new robotics workshop!

Erwin Muller, a longtime member of the Careyes community, worked 28 years for Schlumberger Oilfield Services, rising in the ranks from field engineer through operations and technical management, marketing, human resources, mergers and acquisitions, project support, and business development. He wanted to share his passion for engineering and robotics with kids from local villages, so when he approached the team with a fantastic project, we couldn't say no!

This workshop offers children and young people a space to develop technological and computer skills through the construction and programming of fun Lego robots. It offers them a space to develop analytical, technological, and professional development skills to create a broader knowledge that will benefit their quality of life and long-term educational opportunities. In addition, the participants will build leadership skills, practice teamwork and conflict resolution, as well as improve their capacity for abstraction.

During a three-day intensive course with Erwin, three very talented students – Ingrid (10), Isaac (12), and Renata (13) – emerged as clear leaders and were selected to serve as "Robotics Captains" moving forward. They are now directing their very own Robotics Club for kids from 10-18 years old! The club meets every Tuesday and Wednesday from 5-7 pm at Casa de la Cultura in Emiliano Zapata, supervised by Mariana García, who serves as our VTC Coordinator. The participants will develop and program increasingly larger robots under the guidance of Erwin Muller and, soon, in partnership with professors and students at the University of Texas, with whom Erwin collaborates. A new space where children can learn, have fun, and immerse themselves in this technological world!
