Peppi Bottrop

During his month-long residency in Careyes, Peppi Bottrop led a three-day workshop exploring color theory for 33 children from the villages of Agua Caliente Vieja and La Rosa. For Bottrop’s exhibition, METON, the workshop participants created a vibrant painted tree that stood in front of the Careyes Art Space in contrast with the artist’s works of black charcoal on raw canvas.

German-born and Mexico-City-based, Bottrop is an abstract artist whose large-scale drawings deconstruct geometric shapes and forms to explore human perception. He studied with Andreas Schulze, Jutta Koether, and Albert Oehlen, and his work has been exhibited extensively in Germany at institutions including Museum Quadrat, Bottrop; Kunstverein Maschinehaus, Essen; and Kirschenpflucker Kunstverein, Cologne; among many others.
